Ultrasonic inspection of rail welds (including thermit, pressure, and flash-butt welding) using tailor-made scanners and instrumentation. This technique utilizes a tandem scanning crawler, two linear PA probes with wedges, and specialized rail-weld software to detect lack-of-fusion defects during the welding process and fatigue damage.
